When is a potato dangerous? - The ecologist spoke

Ecologist Ilya Rybalchenko warned that garden potatoes can sometimes be dangerous to health.

Medianews.az reports that according to him, poisonous compounds called solanine and chaconine, which are natural defense substances, accumulate in potatoes. The amount of these substances especially increases when the potato is damaged, moldy, or excessively sprouted.

The most toxic substances are found in the potato's skin, eyes, and green parts. Rybalchenko stated that eating such potatoes can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and more serious complications. "Green and heavily sprouted potatoes are not for eating, but for the trash bin," he emphasized.
