“They are making statements at the level of street hooligans”

“There is no trace of etiquette and manners left among Russian officials; they make statements at the level of street hooligans and insult the leaders of various countries chosen by the peoples.” Political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu said this while commenting to Medianews.az on the issue of Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, former president, and former prime minister, calling the meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Yerevan “a meeting of two brainless Russophobes.”

E. Shahinoglu noted that the reason for Medvedev’s insult was the fact that the talks between the two leaders were conducted not in Russian, but in English: “Medvedev ridiculed the English proficiency of both leaders as well. It seems that Vladimir Solovyov, who hosts a political program on Russia’s state channel, has taken swearing as an example from his elders.

The Kremlin owner and his circle do not want to accept that the former USSR belongs to history. According to the “logic” of those living with the fantasy of restoring the Russian empire, the leaders of the countries formerly belonging to the USSR should only speak Russian among themselves. This in itself is a glorification of imperial thinking. Among leaders, there are those who speak Russian and those who prefer English. The territories of Ukraine are under Russian occupation, the war continues with full intensity, Ukrainian cities and towns are being bombed, civilians are dying, so why should President Volodymyr Zelensky speak the invader’s language with his counterparts?”
