There are no place names like "Montin," "Vorovski," "Razin" in Baku.
Medianews.az reports that Siyavuş Novruzov, the chairman of the Regional Issues Committee of the Milli Majlis, said this at today's meeting of the committee.
Siyavuş Novruzov noted that some companies use these old names so that customers can easily find them: "For example, it is advertised that a training course is located in 'Montin.' However, there is no such place with this name. I inquired about this from the local executive authority. I investigated myself and became certain that there is no place by this name."
The deputy stated that, in general, the issue of changing place names is being seriously investigated by the Toponymy Commission: "If there is a root of the area, it is searched for and found. For example, previously, we changed the name of the village of Chardakhli in Shamkir to 'Chanlibel.' However, both names are of Turkic origin. After the root is determined, name changes can be recommended."
