Does music have a psychological effect and persuasive power? - The Psychologist Spoke

Music is one of the factors that strongly affects human psychology.

Medianews.az reports that Turkish psychologist Elif Zahide Gök spoke about this on the "Yasemin" program.

The psychologist states that music improves mood by increasing the secretion of "happiness hormones" such as dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins in the brain. According to scientific research, positive and energetic songs make people feel happier.

According to her, music is not only a means of entertainment but also a powerful tool of suggestion. Melody, rhythm, and lyrics affect a person's inner world, evoking certain emotions. Especially rhythm is sometimes more effective than words. "It is impossible to deny the impact of the music we listen to on our state of mind. Music has the power of suggestion," the psychologist emphasized.

The use of music for therapeutic purposes dates back to ancient times. In history, including Turkic-Islamic culture, the sound of water, nature sounds, and various musical instruments were applied for therapy. According to the expert, music can still be used today as part of psychological treatment.

The psychologist noted that every factor affecting human life – the programs watched, people interacted with, and music listened to – directs thoughts and behaviors. Therefore, it is important to be cautious about works with negative content in music selection. "Everything we hear shapes our thoughts, and our thoughts shape our behaviors," she added.
