One of our citizens who survived on the "Natra" cargo ship hit in the Sea of Azov is Elmeddin Akhundzade from the village of Boladi in Lankaran.
Medianews.az reports that Elmeddin, who worked as an electrician on that ship, recounted the horrific moments experienced.
"There were 12 crew members on the ship. At 12:05, I woke up to a buzzing sound. They shouted from the deck that the ship was hit by a drone, and everyone should gather below. The second strike was made. After the third strike, we tried to communicate, but another strike came. With the fifth strike, the situation worsened. We were very psychologically distressed. We waited for the morning to search for the bodies. We found one of the bodies, while the ship was completely destroyed. After searching a bit more, we also found the ship's captain. Then Russian boats came and rescued us. They gathered the bodies on one boat and the survivors on another. The Russians were shocked, wondering how we managed to get these bodies out," he said.
It should be noted that on June 5, two foreign cargo ships were hit by drones in the Sea of Azov. As a result, four Azerbaijani citizens died, and four were injured. The 19 Azerbaijani crew members who survived on both ships have been brought to the country, and the bodies of those who died have been delivered to their families.
