From Germany regarding Iran to the UN CALL

Germany's Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul on Monday called on the UN to play a more active role in resolving the conflict with Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the situation is affecting the global economy.

Medianews.az reports that the German minister said before departing for New York to attend a United Nations Security Council meeting: “The United Nations must become the cornerstone of modern conflict diplomacy to address urgent issues related to peace and security.”

He criticized several members of the Security Council for obstructing decision-making and said the world cannot endure such an obstacle when the international community is facing multiple major conflicts at the same time.

The head of German diplomacy warned that Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz seriously impacts the global economy, especially poor countries, and places the world’s food supply at great risk. “Therefore, today in New York, I will call on the UN Security Council to fulfill its duties. If the UN Security Council assumes responsibility now, it will also strengthen the international order,” he added.

During his visit to New York, Wadephul said he would also participate in talks around the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons amid growing concerns about nuclear weapons proliferation. “We want to ensure the universal application of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, although this is becoming increasingly difficult,” he emphasized. //Bakıvaxtı.az
