Honored artist Matanat Iskenderli's mother had Alzheimer's disease.
Medianews.az reports that the singer stated on the "Gonagcanli" program that her mother experienced memory problems. She said that sometimes her mother does not even remember her son who has passed away:
“After losing my brother, my mother worried so much that her memory deteriorated. Sometimes she forgets that her son has died. On one hand, I am happy and say, oh God, I would sacrifice myself for you. I wondered how my mother would live with this pain? God did such a thing that her memory is impaired and she does not remember it. She says, laughs, and eats.
But she remembers her childhood and youth well. Sometimes she does not recognize me either. People look at my posts and ask why she looks like that? They do not know that my mother's memory has weakened. She does not recognize me, sometimes she calls me "mother." It both makes us laugh and hurts our hearts. It is God's will.” (Axşam.az)
