Former Azerbaijani minister: "That is exactly why we call on the Netanyahu government to change the decision"

Former Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Tofiq Zulfugarov commented on the reaction of the official Baku to the decision of the Israeli government regarding the fictitious “Armenian genocide.”

At the end of last month, the Israeli government unanimously adopted a draft prepared by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to recognize the fictitious “Armenian genocide.” If the draft is also approved in the Israeli parliament - the Knesset, the issue of the “Armenian genocide” may become part of Israel's official state policy.

On June 29, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing serious concern about the decision taken by the Israeli government regarding the fictitious “Armenian genocide” and called on the government to reconsider the decision.

Medianews.az reported that Tofiq Zulfugarov wrote the following about the issue on the Facebook network: “Many commentators from Armenia and Israel claim that the policy of one or another country regarding the fictitious 'Armenian genocide' of 1915 is unrelated to Azerbaijan.

The topic of the tragic events of 1915, in which subjects of various nationalities of the Ottoman Empire fell victim and which Armenian politicians characterize as genocide, is one of the main ideological components of Armenian expansionism against Azerbaijan. During the period when the Republic of Armenia conducted armed aggression against Azerbaijan and carried out total ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories, this issue constituted the most essential element at the root of Garegin Nzhdeh’s Tseghakron fascist ideology, which underpins state policy in Armenia.

Therefore, these events are directly related to us, and for this reason, we call on the Netanyahu government to change the decision.”
