The decision that shocked Trump – "It is a regrettable situation, we must act immediately"

The US Supreme Court has rejected President Donald Trump's executive order that aimed to limit birthright citizenship.

Medianews.az reports that the court stated this right is protected by the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution and decided to uphold the existing rules.

Chief Justice John Roberts of the Supreme Court said that almost all children born in the US automatically acquire citizenship. Thus, Trump's executive order, which would have denied citizenship to children of individuals residing in the country illegally or temporarily, has not come into effect.

The decision was adopted with the votes of 6 out of 9 justices.

Additionally, the Supreme Court upheld state laws prohibiting transgender girls and women from participating in female sports teams in public schools and universities.

Protest from Trump

Donald Trump called the Supreme Court's decision a "regrettable situation" in a statement posted on his social media account.

He stated that Congress can easily resolve this issue through legislation passed with the president’s support and that no constitutional amendment is necessary for this.

Trump called on Congress to immediately work on a bill that would end birthright citizenship and emphasized that he would fully and unconditionally support this initiative.
