Scientists have revealed the most important vitamin for the brain.
Demokrat.az reports that neurologist Jacek Staszewski stated that one of the most important vitamins for the proper functioning of the brain is vitamin B12. According to him, a deficiency of this vitamin can negatively affect cognitive functions.
The specialist noted that vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is essential for the normal functioning of the nervous system. He said that there is abundant scientific evidence showing that a deficiency of this vitamin accelerates the aging of brain cells.
Staszewski recommended that the level of vitamin B12 be checked at least once a year. According to him, elderly people, vegans, and vegetarians are at a higher risk of deficiency of this vitamin.
The neurologist also emphasized that vitamin D deficiency is widespread. He said that the reason is not only the lack of sunlight. Studies conducted in Europe have shown that there are also metabolic and genetic factors that hinder the synthesis of vitamin D in the skin.
Experts believe that the balanced intake of vitamins and trace elements is important both for the brain and for overall health.
