The director of the world's largest museum - the Louvre Museum located in the capital of France, Paris, Laurence des Cars has resigned.
Medianews.az reports that French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the resignation. According to a statement released by the Elysee Palace, Macron considered the resignation decision a responsible step taken at a time when the world's largest museum needs both stability and new strong incentives.
The reason for the resignation is the theft that occurred last year in the museum. The media referred to the incident as the "theft of the century." During the incident, historical jewelry worth approximately 100 million dollars was stolen from the museum's Apollo gallery.
Laurence des Cars submitted a resignation letter immediately after the theft, but at that time her resignation was not accepted.

The Louvre Museum was visited by 8.7 million people in 2024.
Laurence des Cars was appointed as the director of the Louvre Museum in September 2021. She was the first woman appointed to this position in the Louvre's 230-year history.
