International due to the Ebola epidemic a state of emergency was declared

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an international emergency regime due to the Ebola fever epidemic spreading in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

A statement to this effect was published on the organization's official website.

It was emphasized that this is about an epidemic, not a pandemic. Currently, there is uncertainty regarding the actual number of infected individuals and the geographical scale of the disease's spread.

According to available data, 80 deaths and 246 cases of infection related to Ebola have been recorded in three zones of the Republic of Congo. So far, only eight infection cases have been confirmed through laboratory methods. The epicenter of the epidemic is in the Mongbalu and Rwampara districts of Ituri province in Congo.

"The Democratic Republic of Congo has extensive experience in combating Ebola epidemics, and WHO is rapidly increasing its support within the framework of current response measures. In close collaboration with national authorities and partners, we are quickly mobilizing additional resources and specialists to stop the spread of the virus, protect people, and save lives," said Mohamed Canabi, Director of WHO's Regional Office for African countries.

The Ebola virus is transmitted to humans from wild animals. The first symptoms of the disease are fever, muscle, head, and throat pains. Later, kidney and liver functions are impaired, and both internal and external bleeding may begin./publika.az
