In recent days, there has been a sharp decline in the number of births in our country. The reasons are varied.
So, what is the cause of the decrease in birth numbers?
According to Medianews.az citing Milli.Az, based on official statistics, 95,875 babies were born in the country in 2025. If we compare this indicator with the 102,310 births recorded in 2024, we see a difference of more than 6,000. As a result, the birth rate per 1,000 people has fallen from 10.0 to 9.4, which indicates a continuing downward trend in the birth rate.
At the same time, last year the total population of the country increased by only 0.4 percent. The weakening of demographic growth is associated both with a decrease in natural increase and a decline in birth rates. The current dynamics are considered a factor that can affect the age structure of the population and long-term socio-economic processes.
Regarding the issue, Deputy Ceyhun Mammadov stated that this is a very serious matter:
"Young people enter marriage without fully understanding family matters. At the same time, families often limit themselves to one or two children, and another issue is the new tendency where some young people no longer want to start a family. The figures are quite serious. This will affect the composition of families, the number of students at school, and other nuances in the future. Especially in the regions, there is a serious decline each year in the number of school entrants."
The deputy noted that the decrease in the number of newborn children is being discussed in the relevant committees of the National Assembly.
