Against the backdrop of ongoing tensions in Iran, the number of executions and mass arrests in the country has sharply increased.
Medianews.az reports that according to the latest report released by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, since the beginning of the conflict, 21 people have been executed in Iran, and more than 4,000 people have been arrested.
Among those executed, there are at least nine individuals sentenced to death for participating in the nationwide protests that began in January 2026. Additionally, ten more people have been hanged on charges of being members of opposition groups, and two others have been executed for espionage.
UN officials state that due to the almost complete shutdown of the internet in the country and the lack of transparency in the judicial system, the actual scale of repression may be many times higher than the reported figures. The international organization expressed deep concern over Tehran's harsh stance and called for respect for human rights.
Currently, the increase in internal tensions in Iran and the pressure on human rights defenders are at the center of global public attention. Official Tehran justifies these measures by the necessity to protect state security.//Musavat.com
