"In June 2026, the air temperature in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula was above the climate norm for 21 days (1–7 degrees), and below the norm for 9 days (0–2 degrees). The average monthly temperature was 24 degrees Celsius, which is 1 degree above the climate norm."
Medianews.az reports that this was stated by Nazim Mahmudov, head of the National Hydrometeorology Service.
According to him, the maximum temperature in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula in June was 37 degrees Celsius on June 19 (Sumgayit), while in other regions (Julfa) it reached 40 degrees Celsius on June 20. The minimum air temperature in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula was 11 degrees Celsius on June 3 (Mashtaga), and in high mountainous areas on the same day, the temperature was close to 0 degrees (Shahdag).
"On some days in June, the weather was intermittently rainy, with thunderstorms occurring, and snow falling in mountainous areas. In some places, the precipitation was intense and heavy, resembling a downpour. The highest precipitation, amounting to 168% of the monthly norm, was recorded in the Balakan-Shaki zone (Kishchay-Shaki 170 mm), 295% of the monthly norm in the Central Aran zone (Bilesuvar 59 mm), and 258% of the monthly norm in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula (Baku 26 mm). Due to the snowfall, the maximum snow cover height was recorded on June 07 in Shahdag as 1 cm."
N. Mahmudov noted that during June, hail was observed in some villages of Dashkasan, Gadabay, Zaqatala, Tovuz, Gazakh, Goygol, Tartar, Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan, Gubadli, and Agstafa districts. The largest hail was recorded in Agstafa district, with a diameter of 25–28 mm.
"Due to windy weather conditions on some days in June, 6 yellow and orange warnings were issued. Windy weather was observed for 6 days in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, and for 23 days in other regions, with the maximum wind speed intensifying up to 28 m/s both in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula and in other regions."
