New trend: Why do young people prefer to stay single?

Recently, the trend of "solo-maxing" (consciously staying single) is rapidly spreading on social networks, especially among Generation Z and millennials. This approach presents being single not as a temporary state, but as a conscious life choice.

Medianews.az reports that an article regarding this was published on the "Psychology Today" website.

Experts believe that the rise of this trend is caused by the increase in dating expenses, fatigue from dating apps, and the stress experienced in relationships.

According to studies, romantic relationships are becoming increasingly expensive due to transportation, restaurant, entertainment, and other costs. This creates conditions for some people to save more by remaining single.

Supporters of "solo-maxing" say that being single provides psychological comfort, reduces conflicts and emotional tension. At the same time, people can devote more time to career, friendships, financial stability, and personal development.

Experts think that this lifestyle also helps a person become more independent and learn to manage daily tasks and finances alone.

Research notes that a significant portion of users of dating apps report feeling tired of these platforms. Forty-six percent of survey participants believe that apps make relationships more superficial and transient.

Psychologists emphasize that "solo-maxing" is not suitable for everyone. If staying single is related to fear, loneliness, or a desire to avoid relationships, it can lead to psychological problems.

They believe that social connections and healthy relationships play an important role in a person's personal development. Therefore, while consciously choosing to stay single can be beneficial, complete isolation from society is not recommended.
