There have been rumors about the football club "Khazar Lankaran," which participated in the Azerbaijani championships from 2004 to 2016, resuming its activities. According to the circulated news, businessman Mübariz Mənsimov, who operates in Turkey and owns the "Palmali" company, has agreed to sponsor the club again.
Sports journalist Anar Khanlarov has clarified some points regarding the information spread. He noted that he conducted a small investigation on the matter.
“Recently, news about the return of 'Khazar Lankaran' has spread again, and this time the information is closer to reality. As you know, former players of the team, Zaur Ramazanov and Alim Gurbanov, were recently in Istanbul and met with the club owner Mübariz Mənsimov. Mübariz Mənsimov has expressed readiness to support the team. I spoke personally with Zaur Ramazanov and I am telling you his exact words. This time the matter looks serious, hopefully it will materialize. Zaur and others will meet with the AFFA administration. I understood that discussions will also be held on which league the team will start competing from. I think if the regulations and sports principles allow, it is possible to join even from the First League. Because 'Khazar Lankaran' left the Premier League and dropped to the First League. The club can resume activities and play again in this league,” - A. Khanlarov said.
It should be recalled that "Khazar Lankaran," which stopped participating in the Azerbaijani championship in May 2016, was once the Azerbaijani champion, won the Azerbaijani Cup 3 times, the Azerbaijani Super Cup once, and the Unity Cup once.
The club held its home games at the central stadium in Lankaran city, which has a capacity of 15,000 spectators.
During its existence, "Khazar Lankaran" had the largest fan base among local clubs in Azerbaijan./modern.az
