"WhatsApp," which is the daily communication tool for millions of people, is preparing to say goodbye to some smartphones. Starting from the beginning of September, access to the application will be restricted for thousands of users.
Demokrat.az reports that the popular messaging platform will end support for devices running operating systems below Android 6.0 as of September 8, 2026. Owners of old-model phones with Android 5.0 and 5.1 versions will be the most affected by this change.
Company officials state that the app’s new security encryptions and modern features do not work stably on old systems. A drop in performance and the risk of cyberattacks have forced the platform to take this step.
Users are advised to create backup copies via Google Drive to prevent losing their messages and important documents. If updating the phone’s software is not possible, switching to a newer model device will be inevitable to continue using the app.
There is currently no serious concern for those using "Apple" devices. The platform will continue to function normally on "iPhone" models with iOS 15.1 and higher.
In other words, after September 8, "WhatsApp" will not open on old-generation Android phones, and it will not be possible to send messages.
