Will the sky always remain blue?

Recent studies conducted by scientists show that despite climate change and the increase of certain dust particles in the atmosphere, the characteristic blue color of the sky will remain constant for humanity. This is directly related to the principle of light scattering by molecules in the atmosphere.

Medianews.az, citing Milli.Az, reports that when sunlight enters the atmosphere, blue light with a shorter wavelength is scattered more than other colors. This physical phenomenon is called Rayleigh scattering.

Research proves that even air pollution or the increase of carbon dioxide does not have the power to completely change this fundamental physical process. In other words, we will continue to see the blue sky above our heads for a very long time.

The intensity of light scattering is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the wavelength ($I \propto 1/\lambda^4$). According to this formula, blue light with a small wavelength ($450\text{ nm}$) is scattered much more strongly than red ($700\text{ nm}$).

Although some theories say that the excessive increase of particles (aerosols) in the atmosphere could affect the tone of the color, the scientific consensus supports that the blue color will be "constant".
