Doing this after exercise stops the recovery process.

The widely spread beliefs that drinking beer after exercise helps the recovery process do not actually reflect the truth. This habit slows down the recovery mechanisms instead of restoring the body's strength.

Demokrat.az reports that this was stated by specialist Yuri Brabečan. According to him, after physical exertion, the body needs water, sodium, electrolytes, protein, and carbohydrates. However, alcohol makes it difficult to restore fluid balance, hinders muscle renewal, and lowers the quality of sleep. Especially after running, football, or heavy strength training, drinking beer does not eliminate thirst; it merely masks it.

For muscle recovery, foods that are sources of protein such as meat, fish, eggs, or cottage cheese are essential. Alcohol disrupts this process during the recovery window. Additionally, since muscles are mostly repaired during nighttime, healthy sleep is crucial. Although alcohol speeds up falling asleep, the sleep is shallow and the body cannot fully rest.

For proper recovery, it is necessary to drink 400-600 ml of water after exercise and consume carbohydrates such as rice or buckwheat along with chicken, turkey, or beef one hour later. If you do not want a heavy meal, cottage cheese mixed with banana and honey is also a good alternative. If someone absolutely wants to drink beer, it is more advisable to reserve this for a day without exercise.

In other words, drinking beer after leaving the gym is deceiving the body; for real recovery, you only need water, proper nutrition, and quality sleep.
