In England, another British citizen has been detected with a suspected infection related to the hantavirus case recorded on the cruise ship named "MV Hondius".
Medianews.az reports that the England Health Security Agency has issued a statement regarding this.
According to the information, the suspected case was recorded last month on Tristan da Cunha island in the South Atlantic where the ship had stopped. Currently, other British citizens on the ship do not exhibit symptoms, but the situation is being monitored.
It is reported that the ship will reach the Canary Islands soon, from where British citizens will be returned to the country by a special flight. Although the passengers do not show symptoms, a 45-day quarantine is under consideration.
Thus, the number of suspected or confirmed hantavirus cases in Great Britain has risen to 3.
Previously, a 56-year-old retired police officer Martin Anstee was evacuated to the Netherlands due to the disease, and another 69-year-old British citizen was treated in South Africa. It has been noted that the condition of both individuals is stable and no symptoms were detected in other travelers.
It should be noted that hantavirus is mainly an infection transmitted from rodents. The virus spreads through contaminated air, rodent bites, or contact. It can cause fever, weakness, muscle aches, and in severe cases, kidney and respiratory failure.
