The Chinese automobile industry has made great leaps in recent years and has become the leader in the market. However, what concerns many drivers is why Chinese brands only prioritize turbo engines and robotic gearboxes.
Demokrat.az reports that an experienced auto mechanic explained the behind-the-scenes aspects of this technological choice and the realities awaiting drivers. According to the expert, Chinese engineers have already left behind the era of blind copying. They analyze the successful experiences of giants like "Volkswagen," "Toyota," and "Mitsubishi" and build their own systems. For example, parts of the engines used in some Chinese models are compatible with German cars, which makes finding spare parts easier.
The main reasons manufacturers abandon naturally aspirated engines are economic and environmental factors. Turbo engines produce higher power with smaller displacement, which means lower tax rates. At the same time, these engines more easily comply with strict environmental standards and provide agile movement within the city. Regarding gearboxes, robotic and CVTs surpass classic "automatics" in terms of fuel economy.
However, these technologies require special attention from drivers. The mechanic notes that turbo engines and robotic gearboxes are very sensitive to poor-quality fuel and delayed maintenance. Reducing the oil change interval to 7-10 thousand kilometers and using only original filters extends the lifespan of components. Otherwise, cheap fuel and untimely oil changes can cause the engine and transmission to fail prematurely.
Currently, even though brands like "BYD" are rising to leadership in the electric vehicle segment within China, internal combustion engine models will remain relevant for a long time in regions like ours. Therefore, when buying new generation Chinese cars, proper maintenance, not savings, should be the priority.
In other words, the modern engines and gearboxes in Chinese cars are not bad; they just require more sensitive and quality maintenance compared to old simple cars.
