US President Donald Trump has commented on the arrest of Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles III of Great Britain.
According to Medianews.az, in response to a request to comment on the images of Andrew in handcuffs, Trump told journalists: “This is a disgrace. This is very sad, a very bad event for the royal family. I was very disappointed when I saw this.”
It should be recalled that Andrew was arrested on the day he turned 66, on February 19. Police detained him at Sandringham estate. Searches were also conducted at Andrew’s homes in Berkshire and Norfolk.
Andrew is suspected of abuse of official powers.
The charge is related to the "Epstein scandal".
There was a close relationship between Andrew and American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sexual assault and several other serious crimes, and who mysteriously died in custody in 2019.
In January of this year, the US Department of Justice released millions of documents, numerous photos, and video materials known as the “Epstein case”. The materials raised suspicions that Andrew informed Epstein in advance about his trips to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Vietnam, and also passed on some secret information about Britain's investment opportunities to Epstein.
According to the indictment, Andrew would send official reports to Epstein just minutes after receiving them.
It is also emphasized that his knowledge about investment opportunities in Afghanistan was shared with Epstein.
Among the materials are Andrew’s correspondence with Epstein and sexually explicit photos as well.
Andrew’s connections with Epstein were known even before the US Department of Justice’s January disclosure. For this reason, he renounced the title Duke of York in October 2025, later lost his prince title, and left his official residence at Windsor Castle.
According to witnesses, on January 19, police arrived at Andrew’s Sandringham estate in six official vehicles.
Police representative Oliver Wright stated that the investigation against Andrew was initiated after a thorough assessment.
