An American official has died in Yangon, Myanmar’s commercial capital.
This was reported by "Reuters" citing a statement from the U.S. Department of State.
It was stated that the incident occurred last month in one of the hotels. A representative of the Department of State confirmed only the death of a government employee working at the U.S. embassy in Rangoon (Yangon), without disclosing further details.
"As a sign of respect for the family and close ones’ privacy, we cannot provide additional information at this time," the statement noted. According to two sources aware of the incident who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, the official’s body was found in the "Sakura Residence & Hotel," located in one of the city’s main diplomatic centers.
The agency noted that hotel staff contacted by phone declined to comment on the matter, and the local police department did not respond to inquiries.
The "Associated Press," which first reported the incident, stated that a woman, a Thai national, was detained in connection with this death case. The "Reuters" agency, however, was unable to immediately and independently confirm these details.//Oxu.Az
