Scientists for the fight against obesity has identified a new target

Scientists have identified a new approach in the fight against obesity. According to the research, the role of magnesium within cells may be important in regulating body weight.

The World Health Organization states that the number of people suffering from excess weight worldwide has increased significantly in recent decades. Obesity is associated with diabetes, heart diseases, and other serious problems.

In a study conducted at the University of Texas in San Antonio, scientists focused on the amount of magnesium in mitochondria, the "energy centers" of cells. The research showed that an excess of this element weakens energy metabolism and increases fat accumulation.

In experiments, mice with the MRS2 gene deactivated did not gain weight despite a high-calorie diet. Their bodies burned sugars and fats more effectively.

Scientists have also developed a substance called CPACC that affects the same mechanism. This compound limited weight gain in trials and improved liver function.

Experts note that the results are promising, but additional research is needed to determine the effectiveness of this approach in humans./BAKU.WS
