Former basketball player Jason Collins, who played 13 seasons in the NBA, has passed away at the age of 47.
Medianews.az reports that he had been battling a stage four brain tumor (glioblastoma) for a long time.
According to his family's statement, Collins had been undergoing treatment for a severe brain tumor over the last 8 months. He had disclosed his illness to the public in December 2025.
NBA officials expressed deep sorrow over his death. League commissioner Adam Silver stated that Jason Collins will be remembered not only for his sports career but also for his contributions to society and his impact on creating a more inclusive sports environment.
Collins was also known as the first openly gay basketball player in NBA history.
