The trial process for the criminal case conducted at the State Security Service (DTX) against Saleh Samedov, the former detained chairman of the Imishli District Elders Council, has begun.
Medianews.az reports, citing "Qafqazinfo," that his case is being examined at the Baku Court for Serious Crimes.
Today, a preparatory meeting was held under the chairmanship of Judge Leyla Asgerova Mammadova. Following the procedure, the rights and duties of the accused were first explained, and preliminary hearings were conducted.
S. Samedov is charged under articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement of a large amount) and 308.1 (abuse of official powers) of the Criminal Code. The sanction under these articles provides for imprisonment from 5 to 10 years.
His lawyer, Jeyhun Mammadov, requested that the preventive measure of arrest chosen against his client be replaced with house arrest, taking into account his age and health. However, the court did not consider this motion substantiated at the current stage.
Since no violations of law were committed during the preliminary investigation period, the criminal case was sent to the court for trial with the consent of the parties.
The main hearing is scheduled for May 20.
It should be noted that last year, on May 9, during a Victory Day event over Fascism, Saleh Samedov exposed himself. At that time, the district elder appeared under the USSR flag with the "St. George ribbon," a symbol of the Russian empire, which led to public condemnation. After this scandal, S. Samedov was dismissed from his position. After a while, the DTX uncovered his corruption crimes. The former council chairman has been in detention for 1 year.
