They have been the US ambassadors to Azerbaijan – NAMES, DATES

US President Donald Trump has nominated Alexander Alden for the position of ambassador to Azerbaijan. The appointment has been sent to the Senate for confirmation.

Alexander Alden is from the state of Virginia. He has held high positions at the US Department of State, the National Security Council, and the Pentagon. He has served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs.

Medianews.az reports that so far the US has had 11 ambassadors to Azerbaijan.

The first ambassador was Richard Miles. He held this post from 1992 to 1993.

The second ambassador was Richard Kauzlarich, who served from 1994 to 1997.

The third ambassador was Stanley Eskundar: 1997-2000.

The subsequent ambassadors are these individuals:

Ross Wilson - 2000-2003;

Rino Harinish - 2003-2006;

Anne Dorsey - 2006-2009;

Matthew Bryza - 2011-2012;

Richard Morningstar - 2012-2014;

Robert Sekuta - 2015-2018;

Lee Litzenberger - 2019-2022;

Mark Libby – 2024.

Mark Libby officially began his work as ambassador in Azerbaijan in January 2024 and resigned in December due to health reasons.

Since July 2025, Chargé d’Affaires Emi Carlon has been leading the US Embassy in Azerbaijan.
