Many coffee lovers consume this drink continuously throughout the day, but experts say that this habit can seriously affect the quality of sleep.
Medianews.az citing Foodinfo.az reports that dietitian Sofiya Kovanova recommends that the last cup of coffee be consumed at least 6 hours before going to sleep. According to her, the effect of caffeine lasts in the body for a long time – sometimes up to 8 hours – which can make it difficult to fall asleep.
The specialist notes that especially in people sensitive to caffeine, even coffee consumed in the afternoon can disturb the depth of night sleep, cause anxiety, and increase heart rate. For this reason, such individuals are advised to prefer herbal teas instead of coffee in the evening hours.
At the same time, in healthy people, normal coffee consumption is not considered dangerous and can even help increase alertness. However, consuming more than 300–400 ml of coffee daily can have the opposite effect, increasing anxiety and tension. Therefore, maintaining balance and choosing the right time are considered one of the main conditions for healthy sleep.
