Experts have warned that early watermelons may pose health risks.
Medianews.az reports that according to food safety expert Anna Cabakova, these watermelons may have higher levels of nitrate.
However, the expert noted that the main danger is not nitrate but bacteria and improper storage, warning that watermelons stored in hot weather and roadside can cause intestinal infections.
The expert particularly considers the purchase of cut watermelons dangerous. Watermelons cut with a dirty knife and stored without refrigeration have rapidly multiplying bacteria.
Experts advise citizens to buy watermelons only from reliable sales points.
