About six years ago, an official from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources stated that the use of diesel cars would be gradually restricted. Currently, some European countries are also preparing to abandon diesel-engine vehicles.
So, what work is being done in this direction in our country?
It is noted in Baku TV's report that, according to transport expert Eldəniz Cəfərov, since Azerbaijan is not a member of the European Union, there will be no restrictions on the import of diesel-engine cars into the country: "Although we belong to the European specification segment in the automotive sector, we are not members of the European Union, and of course, there will be no restrictions on the import of diesel-engine cars in our country."
Today, there is no difference between the customs duties on hybrid, "plug-in" hybrid, petrol, and diesel cars imported into our country. However, it is undeniable that petrol, especially diesel-engine cars, pollute the air more. In this regard, is it possible to make changes in the customs duties for these mentioned cars?
The Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Automobile Dealers Association, Eyyub Əliyev, says that no restrictions are expected to be imposed on cars operating on diesel fuel in the future. Because many cars that are on the balance sheets of various agencies and institutions in Azerbaijan are diesel-engine vehicles: "Especially heavy trucks used in freight transport are among this type of cars, so I do not believe that any restrictions will be imposed on them in the future."
