One of the strongest heat waves in recent years is expected to affect Europe.
Medianews.az reports that foreign media have issued serious warnings regarding the weather conditions called "dragon heat".
According to meteorologists, the warm air mass coming from North Africa may cause temperatures to exceed 40 degrees in much of the continent. The danger level has been raised especially in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Greece.
Based on assessments published in some foreign media outlets, the heat wave poses a serious risk for the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses. These reports claim that the number of deaths related to the heat could reach 25,000 within a week.
Experts state that the high temperatures will continue not only during the day but also at night. The "heat island" effect caused by asphalt and concrete surfaces in big cities may worsen the situation further.
Health experts advise citizens to consume plenty of fluids, protect themselves from direct sunlight, avoid going outdoors unless necessary, and especially for the elderly and those with chronic illnesses to have their condition monitored regularly.
Authorized bodies have also called on people living in Europe or those who have relatives there to be cautious. The mentioned possibility of 25,000 deaths is not an official forecast but a claim voiced in some foreign media outlets and expert assessments.
