For years we had been mistaken - The tallest mountain in the world is said not to be Everest.

An interesting fact has emerged about Everest, which has long been considered the highest mountain in the world.

Medianews.az, referring to Musavat.com, reports that according to scientists, depending on the measurement method, this title could actually belong to Mauna Kea mountain located in the Hawaiian Islands as the highest mountain in the world.

Although Everest is considered a record holder with an altitude of 8,848 meters above sea level, Mauna Kea, when measured from the ocean floor to its summit, reaches approximately 10,200 meters. This makes it a larger mountain mass than Everest.

Experts note that Everest still maintains the status of "the highest peak above sea level." However, when the mountain’s total height is measured from its base, Mauna Kea ranks first.
