Canadian actress Claire Brousseau, despite being physically healthy, is seeking legal permission from the court to end her life due to severe mental disorders she has suffered from for many years.
Medianews.az reports that the 49-year-old actress stated she is battling severe bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, and that waking up every morning has become an unbearable agony for her, expressing her desire for assisted suicide (assisted death).
Brousseau, who has worked on the same projects as stars like James Franco and admits to having the "luxury of choice" such as financial means, and a loving family and friends, emphasized that despite all this, her internal sufferings have not ended and that her previous individual suicide attempts have failed.
Although the actress's family is horrified by this decision despite her physical health being in good condition, her mother Mary Louisa Kinahan expressed that witnessing her child's incredible suffering is equally difficult. In the medical world, there is disagreement on this issue; while one of her doctors defends that she still has a chance of recovery, another has stated that they would support her decision.
Brousseau has said she has lived with the desire to die since the age of 8, and despite trying dozens of medications and types of therapy, none have been effective. Since 2021, she has been fighting to be included in Canada's "Medical Assistance in Dying" (MAID) program. She currently claims that excluding people with mental illnesses from this program is unconstitutional and has filed a legal claim against the government.
The actress stated that she is ready to be an organ donor at her final moments but wishes to leave this world alone so as not to traumatize her loved ones. /Lent.az
