France's former president Nicolas Sarkozy has been released on parole after serving a sentence for financial violations committed during his 2012 election campaign.
Medianews.az reports that this information was broadcast by the "RTL" radio station citing the Paris Court of Appeal.
By the court's decision, the request to ease the former president's sentence was granted. Thus, the electronic bracelet worn by Sarkozy during the six-month sentence period was removed.
It should be noted that the scandal known in the press as the "Bygmalion affair" is related to the public relations agency that managed Sarkozy's 2012 election campaign. According to the investigation materials, the politician spent double the legal limit—42.8 million euros—on the campaign. Since 2016, he had been accused of deliberately exceeding the election budget.
Recall that in February 2024, the Paris Court of Appeal found Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of illegal financing of elections and sentenced him to one year of imprisonment. Six months of the sentence were suspended, and the other six months were enforced under electronic monitoring with a bracelet.
For information, Nicolas Sarkozy served as the President of France from 2007 to 2012./Qafqazinfo
