The bodies of 5 out of 10 miners kidnapped by unidentified armed individuals in the Mexican state of Sinaloa were found in a mass grave. The incident is reported to have occurred on January 23.
Medianews.az, citing local media, reports that the bodies were found in a hidden burial site located in the Concordia town.
It is noted that the miners were mistaken for members of a criminal gang.
Minister of Public Security and Citizen Protection Omar Garcia Harfuch announced that 4 people have been detained in connection with the incident. According to him, the detainees are members of the “Los Chapitos” group and mistakenly confused the miners with members of the rival “Los Mayos” gang.
It is reported that armed clashes continue between the two groups over control of drug routes.
The Mexican Federal Attorney General’s Office has launched a large-scale investigation into the case.
