A nine-meter-long fin whale was found off the coast of Spain.

Medianews.az reports that the incident happened in the city of Valencia.

The 6.5-ton whale was taken to the pier by crane and examined by veterinarians. No injuries such as collisions with ships that could have caused death were detected.

Samples were taken from the whale and sent to the University of San Paolo and the Complutense University of Madrid; the cause of death is being investigated. The body was later taken to the incineration plant for burning.

The fin whale is the second largest whale in the world after the blue whale and can reach lengths of up to 27 meters. This species lives in all oceans, prefers to stay away from coastal waters, and is currently under threat of extinction.
